How to Use Adaptive Training
Workout Levels are an objective measure of every workout in the TrainerRoad library and differ from Progression Levels. Your individual Progression Levels are a representation of your capabilities, while Workout Levels are assigned to a specific workout based on its difficulty—regardless of your abilities. That means that while you and another athlete may have different Progression Levels, the Workout Level will be the same. Once you complete a workout, Adaptive training will quickly analyze your performance and update your Progression Levels automatically.

What Does “Adaptive” Actually Mean in a Fitness App?
Like medicine balls, sandbags can provide resistance if you cannot grip traditional dumbbells, said Zirkenbach. “They are great multi-tools, like a Swiss Army knife in the gym,” he added, pointing out that they can even be used to keep a wheelchair in place for seated athletes. Here are some of my favorite pieces of adaptive exercise equipment. I started strength training at the beginning of the pandemic after years of letting a misguided commitment to running rattle my knees. I had long known the value of strength training using compound lifts (exercises that utilize multiple joints and muscle groups simultaneously, such as a bench press or a squat). With this approach, I can finally exercise my residual left arm, which ends just past my elbow, and put on muscle mass and achieve functional, daily strength that I didn’t previously think possible.
Difficulty Levels
Adaptive fitness centers often come equipped with specialized machines and devices designed to be easily accessible for those with disabilities. For example, exercise bikes with hand pedals allow people with limited leg mobility to engage in cardiovascular exercise. Adjustable benches and resistance machines can be customized to suit different body types and needs. Weight-lifting hooks are a specialty item for seasoned lifters but are also excellent assistive devices for athletes of all experience levels and abilities. Designed to take the load off hands and wrists, they allow you to exercise past limiting factors like grip fatigue or slipping.
